Wright Brothers National Museum

‍The Wright Brothers National Museum is a great place to visit when you're visiting Dayton Ohio - or even if you live here! The flights actually took place south of Kitty Hawk, situated in Kill Devil Hills - but the history is all Dayton's. Museum honors the two brothers who were responsible for the first powered flight. The museum offers several interactive exhibits and is well worth the trip. When you're in the area, you can visit the Wright Brothers National Memorial as well. It is also located in the same spot where the brothers' historic events took place. The museum is located on Unnamed Road, Dayton, OH 45439.

The museum features a newly renovated visitor center with interactive exhibits focused on aviation, historic preservation, and STEAM-based activities. Visitors will learn about the characters and issues that inspired the Wright Brothers, as well as the difficulties and challenges they faced. The museum also has a 1903 Wright Flyer replica and a 16-screen video wall.

The Wright Flyer III was the first practical airplane. Orville Wright considered it to be the most important aircraft of all time. The two brothers taught themselves how to fly using the Flyer III. They stayed in the air for 39 minutes on October 5, 1905, longer than all previous flights combined. The museum also includes a replica of the Wright brothers' bicycle shop.

The Wright Brothers National Museum is owned by Dayton History and operates eight other historic properties in Southwest Ohio. The museum was designated as a National Park Service site in 2014 and was opened to the public in May 2017. Congressman Michael Turner led the effort to secure the designation. The museum houses the largest collection of Wright Brothers artifacts in the United States.

There are a number of free programs held at the Wright Brothers National Museum during the summer season. During these programs, visitors can learn about the Wright Brothers' experiments, rivalry, and glider history. In addition to the museum, the Wright Brothers National Memorial offers lectures and programs throughout the summer.
