Boonshoft Museum of Discovery

The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery is a museum that features both permanent and temporary exhibits. It is located at 2600 Deweese Pkwy, Dayton, OH 45414.  There is something for everyone to enjoy, and many of the exhibits include live animals. The museum's Mission: To enrich the quality of life in the community by promoting a greater understanding of the world. In addition, the museum preserves and enhances its collection. This makes it one of the finest discovery centers in Ohio.

Founded in 1893 as the Dayton Public Library and Museum, the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery has evolved into a family-friendly science center. The museum includes a play zoo, paleontology exhibit, and earth sciences. The museum also is one of six Ohio facilities accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).

The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery is open Monday through Saturday and Sunday. Visitors are required to have a valid ID and a membership card to gain entry. Children must be accompanied by an adult (18 years old) at all times. The museum is located off I-75 at 2600 DeWeese Pkwy.

The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery is an ideal destination for families with young children. The museum offers a variety of educational programs and self-guided tours. It also offers IMAX movies that will entertain your family while learning about the science of the world. Its aims are to promote scientific discovery and natural history.

There is an interactive exhibit on dinosaurs on the second floor that is particularly educational. There are even size comparisons, so you can see the size of a giant ostrich egg or an ancient beaver skull. The second floor of the museum also features an Egyptian and Native American exhibit. However, some of the exhibits might not be suited for the little ones.

The museum is also home to an exhibition of live animals. Until Aug. 20, 2017, visitors can learn about the extinction of dinosaurs. During the summer, visitors can view dinosaur bones and explore the solar system through interactive displays. For kids, the museum also has a roller coaster at the Caryl D. Philips Space Theater.

 

Visitors can bring their own snacks or purchase food at the museum. There is a snack bar and vending machines, and a large dining room that is adjacent to the butterfly house is open to the public. During the summer, it is recommended that visitors bring their own lunch or snacks, as the museum is very popular.
